We’re here with another installation of Flags of the World, a series where we take a look at just that – flags of the world. We’ll give a brief overview of their history, their design, and symbology. We’ve covered so many flags to this point. To see more, head to the search bar at the top of the BestFlag page and type “flags of the world.” There’s lots of great info there that just might save your life in a game of trivia. Today, let’s tackle the flag of Bangladesh.

This week, we also talked about the flag of Ukraine. Guess who’s also nearly as similar? That’s right: Bangladesh.
The Bangladeshi flag is a borderline ripoff of the Japanese flag, but we won’t harp on that.
Like the Japanese flag, the Bangladeshi flag is a large red dot on a green field, whereas the Japanese flag is a white field.
Their flag is relatively new, having only been adopted in 1972. The red dot is slightly offset from the center of the field so that when it’s flying, it appears to be centered between the flagpole and the far edge of the flag. The red dot symbolizes the rising sun over Bengal and the blood of those who died liberating Bangladesh.
